Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 14 of the 14th of March reporting on the application for Mr. Irving to be allowed to surrender certain land which he had purchased in Vancouver Island and to receive back his deposit.
Under the circumstances stated by youManuscript image I do not consider that it would be possible, with due regard to public interests, to interfere between the purchasers of land and the local Government.
I have therefore to approve your proceedings in this matter, and you will be at liberty to deal with Mr. Irving's land in the same manner as with other LandsimilarlyManuscript image similarly situated.
