Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 40 of the 1st of August, and to transmit to you a copy of a letter from the Board of Trade from which you will learn that the Stores required for the service of the Race Rocks and Fisgard Island Light Houses have been shipped on board the Steamer "Fusi Yama," appointedManuscript image to sail on the 24th instant.
As soon as the Bill for these Stores is received from the Board of Trade, the Colonial Agents will be instructed to pay it, and you will be duly apprized of the amount; but in the meanwhile I am desirous to call your attention to the present state of the Agents' Account with the Colony. After deducting the sum of £551..18..9 overpaid by them, of which you were informed by my despatch of the 30th of August last, from the sum of £600 remitted by you, as reported in your despatch of the 4th of November, a balance of only £48 remains to thecreditManuscript image credit of the Colony.
It will therefore be necessary for you, not only to remit a sum sufficient to meet the cost of these stores, but also to supply the Agents with funds to enable them to satisfy any other demands which may be made upon them from time to time for the service of Vancouver Island.
