Abstract
Despatch from London.
Newcastle grants Kennedy permission to leave Vancouver Island in order to visit Governor Seymour in British Columbia as occasion may demand, but asks that Kennedy limit his trips to no more than four weeks per year in total and to report his trips to the Colonial Office.

Sir,
With reference to your letter of the 30th Ultimo, I have the honor to convey to you Her Majesty's permission to visit the Colony of British Columbia as occasion may demand.
The duration of any one visit of this description is left to your discretion, but it will be necessary that your absence from your post without previous leave from home should not exceed four Weeks in the Year in all, and that each absence should be regularly reported to this Office.
