I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch No. 35 of the 14th of June, on the subject of the defalcations of Mr. G. T. Gordon, late Treasurer of Vancouver Island.
As it appears that in the opinion of the Attorney General the sum of these defalcations cannotManuscript image be recovered from Mr. Gordon's Surities, there seems to be no other course than to submit to the loss as resolved by your Council. I have therefore to convey to you my approval of the course you have taken in directing the amount to be written off the pulic accounts as irrecoverable.
