With reference to your Despatch No. 71 of the
6th Ultimo, I have
the honor to request that you will inform
Mr. D. B. Ring that I have
received his letter of the
30th of August relative to the appointment of
Attorney General of
Vancouver I, together with the original
documents by which it was accompanied and which
I now return.
You will state to
Mr. Ring that I consider it the duty of the
governor, in appointing to a vacant Public Office, to make the selection
which he conscientiously believes to be best for the public Service, and
that as I feel no doubt that you pursued that course on the present
occasion, I have found no reason to
interfere with your discretion.
