Sir,

I have the honor to transmit to you a copy of a letter from Mrs. Jarman and to request that you will cause enquiries to be instituted respecting the fate of her son.

I take this opportunity of forwarding to you copies of two Circulars that have beenaddressed

addressed to the Governors of some of Her Majesty's Colonies, requesting them to name some Officer to whom enquiries of this nature might be addressed. I shall be glad if you will inform me what assistance you can afford in such cases.

I have today seen and conversed with Charles Orriss Haining. He returned from Carriboo about 3 weeks ago. While there he had a slight attack of what he terms "mountain fever", but he appears now to be in good health. His mining at Carriboo has not been very [?]ful, but he purposes [?] back there again shortly.
