Romaine writes to the Under-Secretary of State, on behalf of the Admiralty, to ask Newcastle to arrange the payment for the Thames City's freight transport to Vancouver Island, and to ascertain the value of four cases of missing brandy.
The minutes ask the Treasury to pay “this claim out of the vote for B. Columbia.”
The first of the two draft letters included in the file is from Elliot to Hamilton, which forwards a copy of the Romaine's letter; and the second is from Elliot to the Secretary to the Admiralty, which states that the paymaster general has been authorized to pay £42.4.0 to naval services.

I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to request that you will move the Duke of Newcastle to cause the sum of £42.4.0, being the difference between the £50, abated from Broker's claim for £1520.1.3, for freight to Vancouver's Island per "Thames City," and the ascertained value of Four Cases of Brandy deficient, to be paid to the credit of NavalServicesManuscript image Services, through Her Majesty's Paymaster General, who has been authorized to receive the same.
