I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of 
Lord Desart's
               letter of the 
27th Ulto transmitting a copy of a letter from the
               Secretary of the Admiralty relative to the survey of the eastern Coast
               of 
Vancouver's Island, and stating that 
Sir John Pakington had
               instructed 
Governor Douglas to adopt any means at his disposal for
               obtaining the requisite information with respect to the pilotage of the
               principal channels and ports of the district, and in furtherance of this
               object requesting that the Hudsons Bay Company will afford any aid in
               their power.
               
               In reply to which I am directed to state that the Governor and
               Committee of the Hudson's Bay Company will instruct the Company's
               officers in 
Vancouver's Island to afford every assistance in their power
               towards the accomplishment of the object in view.
