I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of
Lord Desart's
letter of the
27th Ulto transmitting a copy of a letter from the
Secretary of the Admiralty relative to the survey of the eastern Coast
of
Vancouver's Island, and stating that
Sir John Pakington had
instructed
Governor Douglas to adopt any means at his disposal for
obtaining the requisite information with respect to the pilotage of the
principal channels and ports of the district, and in furtherance of this
object requesting that the Hudsons Bay Company will afford any aid in
their power.
In reply to which I am directed to state that the Governor and
Committee of the Hudson's Bay Company will instruct the Company's
officers in
Vancouver's Island to afford every assistance in their power
towards the accomplishment of the object in view.
