                     Barclay, as directed by the governor and committee of the HBC, writes to 
Peel, to forward to 
Newcastle, an extract that the HBC had received from 
Douglas.
 
                  
                  Of the two accompanying documents, the first is a draft letter, from the Colonial
                     Office to 
Barclay, that acknowledges 
Barclay’s letter, and advises of 
Newcastle’s intention to commend 
Douglas, and others, for their “creditable & judicious conduct” in consequence of 
Peter Brown’s murder; the second is an extract, from 
Douglas to 
Barclay, that details 
Douglas’s expedition against the Aboriginal men thought responsible for 
Peter Brown’s murder.
