Registrar General
The Registrar General was responsible for the main registration of births, deaths,
and marriages in the colony of British Columbia.1 The Registrar General of British Columbia was established under the “British Columbia Registry Act, 1861.” The Registrar General also had the duty to record in books…the record of pre-emption claims, the record of mortgages, the record
or wills.2
