Maclachlan, Chief Inspector of the Revenue Police, provides the Colonial Office with a character reference of general satisfaction for Peter O’Reilly.
The minutes suggest sending a letter of introduction for O’Reilly to Douglas at the recommendation of Lord Claud Hamilton.
Enclosed are two character references from co-workers of O’Reilly; and a draft letter of introduction for O’Reilly addressed to Douglas.

I have great pleasure in expressing my opinion of the manner in which Mr Peter O'Reilly discharged his duties as an officer in the Revenue Police for a period of seven years and nine months.
He always maintained an exemplary character as an Officer and a Gentleman, and by attention to his various duties gave general satisfaction.
