received his letter of the

reporting his arrival at
Panama and the steps which he had taken for
conveying his party to their destination.
You will state to
him him that I approve of the course he took for
securing second Class passages on board the Vessel which was to convey
his men to
San Francisco, and that I have recommended the Lords
Commissoners of the Treasury to honor his Bills to the extent of Six
hundred pounds (£600) in addition to the One Thousand Pounds (£1000)
placed at his disposal previous to his leaving this Country.
