Despatch from London.
Lytton informs Douglas that the letters patent and seal creating the
Bishoprick of British Columbiahave been issued and Reverend George Hills appointed first bishop.

Sir,
Referring to my despatch, No 32, of the
19th of October, in which
I informed you of the intention of Her Majesty to establish a Bishoprick
in British Columbia, I have now to acquaint you that Letters Patent
under the Great Seal have been issued erecting the Colonies of British
Columbia, andof
of Vancouvers Island into a Bishops See, to be styled "The
Bishoprick of British Columbia," and appointing the Reverend George
Hills to be the first Bishop thereof; and I enclose, herewith, for your
information, a copy of the said Letters Patent.
