Carnarvon acknowledges Douglas’s earlier despatch on
the progress of British Columbia,and encloses Downie’s letter on
the result of explorations which he had carried onin Jervis Inlet and Desolation Sound.

I have to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch,
No 123, of the 25th
of March last, containing an account of the progress of British
Columbia since the date of your last general Report, and enclosing a
letter from Mr Downie stating the result of explorationswhich
