At the request of Colonel Moody I forward herewith to your Grace a letter he has addressed to me requesting
the
the assistance of Her Majesty's
Government towards obtaining passages from England under Government on
Emigration auspices for certain of the wives and betrothed of the men
belonging to the Detachment of Royal Engineers in British Columbia.
The War Office ought, I suppose, to be referred to—&
told that we propose to send these women and children out—&
to obtain repayment of the sums advanced, by stoppages
from the men's pay. Col. Moody wd. seem to ask that
Sergeant McColl's wife & family may be send out at Govt
expense. Consult the War Office.
