I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of Your Grace's Despatch No 29 of the 3rd of June and Manuscript image and I feel much gratified with Your Grace's appreciation of my remarks respecting the management of the North Western Territories of British North America.
2. In reply to your question regarding the Map I forwarded, I beg to acquaint your Grace that I did not define the Boundary of the Hudson Bay Companys Territory from any Authority, but Manuscript image but I drew the line merely from my own recollections of the extent over which the rights of the Hudson Bay Company been practically asserted under its original Charter.
I was aware that the tract I enclosed was more limited than that granted by the Charter, but the Hudson Bay Company really enjoyed the exclusive right of trade only Manuscript image only within that line, for the North West Company had Fur Trading Posts scattered over every other part of the Indian Country.
