No. 88
8 October 1860
My Lord Duke,
I regret much the inconvenience to which your Department has been exposed through my Despatches not being written upon regular sized Foolscap paper, as pointed out in your Despatch of Manuscript image of the 3rd July No 38.
2. I assure Your Grace that this circumstance would not have occurred had it been practicable to procure proper sized paper, but we are here, at present, mainly dependent upon the American Market for certain descriptions of goods, paper among the number, and we are compelled to use such as can be procured at the time.
3. To obviate this annoyance and inconvenience more than eighteen Manuscript image eighteen months ago an order was sent to England for a supply of Stationery of the customary official description. The articles were shipped but the Vessel bringing them was unfortunately wrecked at the Falkland Islands. A duplicate of the order has, however, been executed, but the articles have not yet arrived.
4. I feel much indebted to your Grace for your kindness and consideration in directing a moderate supply of Stationery to be forwarded to me from Her Majesty's Stationary Manuscript image Stationery Office, and I will not fail in future, when need may be, to forward timely requisitions for any further Supplies that may be required.
I have etc.
