Sir,
I transmit for your information a Copy of a letter from Mr Begbie stating the conditions on which he is willing to undertake the opening up a road in British Columbia; and I have to request that you will furnishManuscript imagefurnish me with a report upon the subject to which it relates.
In sending you this Communication however I do not intend to express my sanction of a close monopoly of a road as proposed by Mr Begbie, a measure which in my opinion would, in such a Country as British Columbia, be open to grave objections.
