Newcastle forwards Douglas the Treasury's approval of Douglas's request to mint gold coins in British Columbia to address problems caused by the want of a circulating medium. Enclosed documents provide the Treasury's guidelines for the minting of the coins.

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 67 of the 14th of November last, representing the inconvenience and loss which is experienced in British Columbia from the want of a circulating medium and proposing to issue from the Government Assay Office Gold pieces equal in value to the 10 and 20 DollarAmericanManuscript image American Coins.
I have brought your proposal under the consideration of the Lords Commissoners of the Treasury, and I transmit for your information and guidance a copy of their Lordship's reply.
I have only to add that if you should require any dies to be prepared in this country, or any apparatus supplied for striking the Coin you should make early application for the purpose to thisDepartmentManuscript image Department.
