I have to acknowledge your letter of
27 instant,
with one from the Governor of the
Hudsons Bay C calling
               the attention of the
Duke of Newcastle to the delay which
has occurred in the Colony in carrying into effect the
arrangement for the settlement of the Land claims of the
               Company in
British Columbia, made between this Office and

M Dallas on
11 Oct 1861.

               2. We have no information which would enable us to suggest

any explanation of the delay—and I can only, therefore,
               recommend that
Governor Douglas' attention should be
called to it, and that he should be desired to carry the
above arrangement into practical effect, as quickly as
               circumstances will allow.
