Mr Elliot
Ansr that we have no knowledge of the money order which has been sent to Mrs Cox & can not supply her with any information at present as to further remittances.
ABd 3 July
Answer Mrs Cox as proposed.
But as I can see that in April last we received a promise from Govr Douglas to let us hear further from Mr Cox, and nothing further has come, write him a reminder and say that the Governor must insistManuscript image on Mr Cox's making some provision for his wife and sending his remittances punctually, or else must dismiss him from the Public Service. The Secy of State looks to Govr Douglas to see that Mr Cox does not trifle with the matter.
Draft.

Mr Elliot
We have recd no explanation from Mr Cox—which he might, & ought to have sent us. But suppose the case of Mrs Cox being aManuscript image a person of [undesirable?] bad character, & that the husband has fled from her to get quit of her Company don't you think that a threat of dismissal,Manuscript image in ignorance of the circes of the case, is rather sharp practice on our part?
ABd 7 July
Mr Blackwood
I dare say that it may be better to be more cautious, & am most obliged for the hint. I have modified the draft accordingly.
