Seymour transmits a copy of an address to him by the inhabitants of Nanaimo as well as his reply to them.

8th June 1864

My Lord Duke,

Having been compelled, when on a Voyage from Bute Inlet to New Westminster in Her Majesty's Gunboat "Forward," to put into Nanaimo in Vancouver Island for Coal I was received with every demonstration of loyalty to Her Majesty, whom I have the honor to represent in a neighbouring Colony, and of good feeling towards myself.

2. I enclose copy of an address which was presented to me on landing and of my reply.
