I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to request that you will acquaint Mr Secretary Cardwell that William McColl, late Sergeant in the Royal Engineers, has represented to this Department that he has not received the grant of Land which it was agreed should to be given to those men belonging to theManuscript image detachment employed under Colonel Moody in British Columbia, who might take their discharge, with a view to settling in the Colony.
Earl de Grey will be glad if Mr Cardwell will call the attention of the Governor of British Columbia to this subject.
McColl is at present residing at Yale, British Columbia.

Transmit to the Govr for report? The terms of the agreement were that the Men of the Royal Engineers should receive grants of 30 Acres of each of Agricultural Land after 6 years continuous good faithful service, on condition of residence and Military Service within the Colony if called upon.
