London
25 May 1866 To the Right Honble E. Cardwell Secretary of State for the Colonies

Sir
Since I had the honor of addressing you last, I have received a communication from the Gentlemen in treaty for the Bute Inlet road, to the effect, that they are prepared to pay the deposit as soon as I have made the necessary arrangements with the Government. May I request the favor of an interview for the purpose of talking the matter over, and any point you might not feel disposed to act on, might be postponed until my return to the Colony. Should it however be inconvenient for you to see me, perhaps you will be kind enough to allow me toManuscript image meet one of the Under Secretaries of State.
Allow me to draw your attention to the fact, that by the arrangement proposed in my letter to His Excellency Governor Seymour, on the 11th Ulto., a copy of which I had the honor of sending you on the 19th Inst. the Company is bound to carry goods to Cariboo at less than one half the present cost.
Awaiting the favor of an early reply,
I have the honor to be
Sir
Your most Obdt Servant
