To the Right
Hon E. Cardwell
Secretary of State for the Colonies
Sir
Since I had the honor of addressing you last, I have
received a communication from the Gentlemen in treaty for
the
Bute Inlet road, to the effect, that they are prepared
to pay the deposit as soon as I have made the necessary
arrangements with the Government. May I request the favor of
an interview for the purpose of talking the matter over,
and any point you might not feel disposed to act on, might
be postponed until my return to the Colony. Should it however be
inconvenient for you to see me, perhaps you will be kind enough
to allow me to
meet one of the Under Secretaries of State.
Allow me to draw your attention to the fact, that by
the arrangement proposed in my letter to His Excellency
Governor Seymour, on the
11 Ulto., a copy of which
I had the honor of sending you on the
19 Inst. the
Company is bound to carry goods to
Cariboo
at less than one half the present cost.
