My Lord,
With reference to My Confidential despatch of 5th January respecting the relations existing between the Officers of the English and American GarrisonsonManuscript image on San Juan Island, I have now the honor to forward Copy of a reply given by General Halleck to a letter written on My recommendation by the present Senior Naval Officer at Esquimalt.
2. It appears to me that the Letter of General Halleck, Commanding the American Forces on the Pacific, is civil and satisfactory.
