Buckingham acknowledges receiving Pemberton’s confidential report on possible Fenian actions against British Columbia and expresses confidence in the abilities of Seymour and Hastings to protect British Columbia and its citizens.

Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of a Confidential Report from Mr. Pemberton, which was enclosed in your[s] to Sir F. Rogers on the 26th June having reference to alleged Fenian movements within the Colony of British Colombia.
I have to express my entire confidence in you and the Admiral to take all needful precautions in such a matter and I am equally confident that the good spirits of the Colonists will lead them to make common cause against those whose real object is robbery and plunder.
