I have very little personal acquaintance with Mr Maunsell; I have no reason to doubt his fitness for employment; but I could not recommend his appointment to any Office in this Colony, where the Civil Establishment is already in some departments more extensive than is required, and to reduce it is rendered difficult by lack of opportunity to provideotherwiseManuscript image otherwise for present incumbents.
I have the honor to be,
My Lord,
Your most obedient
humble Servant.

Mr Meade
I shall be very happy to do so, if you see any opening. If Colonial Life has not spoilt him, he was a very active, intelligent, assistant in the Finance work of the Exhibition of 1862.

Answer that his name will be placed on the list & his case considered with those of others should any suitable Vacancies occur. I am afraid that is as much as we can say at present.
