With reference to my Despatch No. 91 of the 13th September, I
transmit to you copies of a correspondence between Mr. W.A.G. Young,
this department and the Treasury, in regard to his application for a
gratuity on account of the loss of his office.
I have to authorizeyou you to bring this correspondence before your
Council with a recommendation that a gratuity equivalent to not more
than six months salary should be voted to Mr. Young.
Copy, Law to Sandford, 19 August 1869, stating that there is no objection being made to "the proposal to sanction the payment
from the Colonial Treasury of the passage money to this Country of Mr. Young."
Copy, Sandford to the Secretary to the Treasury, 13 August 1869, forwarding an application from Young and stating that the passage money for Young should be sanctioned.
Copy, Law to the Under Secretary of State for the Colonial Office, 16 October 1869, stating that there is "no objection to His Lordship carrying out the proposal" mentioned
in a previous letter regarding the passage of Young and his family.
Copy, Young to Rogers, 16 September 1869, regarding a misunderstanding in his application.
Copy, Rogers to the Secretary to the Treasury, 22 September 1869, stating that "their Lordships could not for the present at least entertain the question
of a gratuity to Mr. Young."
