I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to
acquaint you, for the information of Earl Granville, that
Rear-Admiral Farquhar in a letter dated at San Francisco1st
April 1870 No 37, reports that affairs in Vancouver's Island
remain quiet, Parliament has opened on the 15th February, &
little opposition existed as to the Confederation scheme. He
further states, that the recently discovered Gold Fields on the
Peace River, will, it is believed, attract a largenumber number of
immigrants from California.
