The Commander in Chief having been pleased to interest himself
in my behalf with the late Secretary of State for the Colonies,
(The Earl Granville) and His Lordship having placed my name on
his list for a reappointment.
I have the honor very respectfully to ask Your Lordship to allow
my name to be placed on your list, and to give my application
favorable consideration asit it is very long since my last
appointment, of Gold Commissioner and Magistrate, in British
Columbia, was abolished.
I have the honor to be,
My Lord,
Your most obedient humble Servant,
George Foster Foster
Major Foster has no special claims to employment in the
Colonial Service; but as he appears to have done his work well
wherever he has been employed, his name should be placed on Lord
Kimberley's list.
? Reply that Major Foster's application will be noted & duly
considered when vacancies occur in suitable appointments; but
that the number of candidates with strong claims on Lord K's
list precludes him from holding out much hope of his being
able to comply with Major Foster's request.
