I have received your Despatch No. 32 of the
5th April, enclosing a
copy of a debate on the subject of confederation with Canada and a copy
of the resolution passed on the subject by the Legislative Council of
British Columbia.
I I have much pleasure in acknowledging the ability
with which this question has been debated, and the evident desire of the
Council, should be treated not as a matter of party warfare but in the
interest of the Colony as a whole.
