Hamilton reports to Hawes that the Admiralty have directed their Solicitor to repay the Colonial Office, through Smith, the sum advanced them to appoint Court Officers to serve at Vancouver Island.

Smith minutes that he has received the sum of thirty eight pounds, ten shillings and threepence mentioned in Hamilton's letter.

In reply to your letter of the 22d Instant; I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you, that they have directed their Solicitor to repay Mr Smith the Chief Clerk of the Colonial Office the
