M Merivale
I understood
Lord Grey's instructions on 1128 differently from yourself.
I fancied he wished to have from
Sir J. Pelly a statement of the extent
&c of the land claimed by the Company, as well as a report from the
Governor on the point, so that the two statements might be subjected to
a certain degree of comparison. But I must have been mistaken in my
impression for I perceive
Lord Grey approved the draft with the addition
you made to it, & of which addition
Sir J. Pelly avails himself by
returning a simple acknowledgment to our Letter.
