No. 7
28th February 1854
My Lord Duke
I have received your Despatch No 11, of the 17th October with the Book of Colonial Regulations, which prescribes the mode in which Officers Administering Colonial Governments, are to conduct their official correspondence, and referring particularly to the 4th 5th and 9th rules of Chapter 6, which had been overlooked in my recent despatches.
I am sorry that your Grace should have had the trouble of calling my attention to that subject. The error arose entirely from ignorance of the prescribed forms, andIManuscript image I trust the despatches, now transmitted will be found correct, though I am not sure that the Docket is made out in the proper form, particularly in respect to the 'subject of Despatch.'
If not I trust your Grace will cause a pro-forma Docket to be sent for my guidance.
I have the honor to be
Your Grace's most obedient humble Servant
James Douglas
