Sir,
With reference to your Despatch No 2 of the 7th January 1854,
transmitting an Act passed by your Council to establish a Supreme Court
of Civil Justice, and to the correspondence which has since passed on the
subject; I now transmit to you an Order in Council for the same purpose.
2. Mr Cameron will be appointed Chief Justice and the warrant
for that purpose will be transmitted to you with as little delay as
possible.
3. Criminal jurisdiction has not been included. Your Despatch
No 11 of the 25th July last shows that you have not felt any
difficulty as yet on this score, and as soon as you have assembled the
lawful Legislature of the Colony, as directed by my Despatch No 5 of the 28th February last, you will be able to make such further
provision for the purpose asyou you may consider advisable.
