Romaine sends a copy of a letter to Baynes to the CO in regards to a Naval force at the Fraser River.
The minutes copy to Douglas so that he may see that the Home Government is not unmindful of this important desideratum.
Enclosed is a draft reply from Lytton to Douglas for his information; a draft from Merivale to the Secretary to the Admiralty acknowledging receipt; and Romaine to Baynes instructing him to give priority to the gold region.

With reference to your letter of the 11th Instant stating that the greatest importance is attached to the presence of a Naval Force with as many Marines as can be spared, off Frazer's River, I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to transmit to you herewith for the information of Secretary Sir Edward Bulwer Lytton a Copy of a letter which has been this day addressed to Rear Adml BaynesuponManuscript image upon the subject.
