Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of Mr Merivale's letter of the 14th August, enclosing copies of three despatches of equal date, addressed by you to Governor Douglas on the subject of the future government of the Colony, and I beg to convey to you the best thanks of the Directors of the Hudson's Bay Company for that obliging communication.
