My Lord
I have the honour to inform your Lordship, that the Committee of this Society looking to the vast importance of making provision for the spiritual wants of the population so rapidly increasing of British Columbia, have this day determined to send there with as little delay as possible one or two missionary Chaplains.
The Committee make no application for any money grant in support of the projected mission, but trust Manuscript imagethat Her Majesty's Government will provide a passage for the Clergyman who shall be appointed first Chaplain in the new Colony.

Lord Carnarvon, who has had an interview with Mr Hawkins on this subject, has succeeded excellently in relieving us from any charge on account of these Clergymen. I think we can do no less than comply with this request. If the first Chaplain is ready in time he can have a passage on the Freight Ship. Answer accordingly & acquaint the Governor.
