Correspondence (private letter).
Minutes (2), Other documents (1).
Goring asks if he will he have right and title to the land without the Sanction of the British Government if he purchases land on Vancouver Island from the HBC.
The minutes answer in the affirmative as long as the purchase is made before 30 May 1859.
Enclosed is a draft from Carnarvon to Goring advising that his title to land purchase from the HBC would be valid without government sanction, provided that the purchase was made while
they still held the grant to Vancouver Island.
I shall feel obliged by your informing me if purchase of Land
from the Hudsons Bay Company in Vancouvers Island will give me a
right and title to the land without the Sanction of the British
Government.
Draft, Carnarvon to Goring, 17 August 1858, advising that his title
to land purchased from the Hudson's Bay Company would be valid
without government sanction, provided the purchase was made
before 30 May 1859.
