With reference to the last Paragraph of my Despatch of the 28 March No 17, I have the honor to transmit herewith to your Grace Copy of a letter which I have received from the Agent at this place of the Hudson's Bay Company, exhibiting the quantity of land claimed by the CompanyManuscript imageCompany under a Title anterior to the Charter of Grant, and also the quantity acquired by purchase in their private capacity.
2. The quantity of land purchased by the Company at Nanaimo alluded to by Mr Dallas in the Postscript of his letter, amounts to Six Thousand One Hundred and Ninety three Acres: excluding Reserves made on the tract for Public purposes and for Indians of One thousand and Seventy four Acres.

You are much better acquainted than I am with these Hudson's Bay matters, and will be able to say whether or not this information ought to be sent to Mr Berens, and also whether it would require to be made use of in preparing the Government case for the matter to be settled in the Privy Council.

This need not go to the H.B.Co.—nor to the Solicitor of the Treasury. It is only the same statement of claims, obtained by Govr Douglas from the Co's Agent which they are making here.
