I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of to Sir Frederic Rogers' letter of the 23rd instant enclosing a despatch from Governor Douglas transmitting a correspondence which has passed between himself and the Agent of the Hudson's Bay Company in Vancouver's Island on the subject of the Sale by the Company of a certain portion of water frontage in Victoria required for a public landing place and Harbour Master's Office.
In reply I beg to state thatthereManuscript image there is no wish on the part of this Company to do anything that would militate against the public interests. I therefore hasten to inform your Grace that in compliance with the suggestion thrown out in to Sir Frederic Rogers' letter I have directed that specific instructions shall be sent by this days post to the Agent of this Company at Victoria to suspend the sales of the land in question as referred to in the correspondence between Governor Douglas and Mr Dallas.
