I have laid before the Secretary of State for War your letter of the 22nd Ulto together with its enclosure from the Governor of Vancouver Island in which he requests to be furnished with 500 stand of arms for the use of the Volunteer Force in that Colony.
In reply I am torequestManuscript image request that you will acquaint the Duke of Newcastle that, in compliance with His Grace's recommendation, Lord Herbert has given directions for the issue, free of cost, of 500 1st class Brunswick Rifles, with a suitable supply of ammunition.
