Newcastle acknowledges Douglas's despatch informing him of the completion of the lighthouses at
Fisgard Island and Race Rocks and informs him that his request to
have an additional £1,000 in expenses related to the lighthouses' construction financed
by the British government has been approved by the
Board of Trade.

Sir,
I have to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 50 dated
the 5th of December last reporting the completion of the Fisgard and Race Rock Lighthouses and representing the circumstances under which
you had found it necessary to incur an additional expenditure of one
thousand pounds on these Works.
It
It is gratifiying to Her Majesty's Government to learn that, with
the valuable aid rendered by the Admiral on the Station, the
Lighthouses have been constructed in a manner creditable to all
concerned in the undertaking.
The Lords of the Committee of Privy Council for Trade have been
authorized to accept such bills as you draw on account of this service,
in excess of the amount already sanctioned to the extent of one
thousand pounds.

You will bear in mind that a moiety of the whole expenditure on
account of these Works is to be ultimately contributed from Colonial
Funds in conformity with the intimation to you in Sir Edward Lytton's
Despatch No. 63 of the 11th of May 1859.
