Douglas acknowledges Newcastle's despatch acquainting [Douglas] with the nature of the reply [Newcastle] had caused to be given to certain suggestions offered by Lieutenant Colonel Foster, Commanding the Vancouver Island Volunteers, upon the mode of appointing the officers of the Corps.

I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your Despatch No 83, of the 31st December, acquainting me with the nature of the reply your Grace had caused to be given to certain suggestions offered by Lieutenant Colonel Foster, Commanding the Vancouver Island Volunteers,uponManuscript image upon the mode of appointing the officers of the Corps; and I beg to return my thanks to your Grace for such information.
