Douglas acknowledges receipt of Newcastle's despatch informing him that surplus 68 pounder guns from
HMS Bacchante and HMS Topaze are to be added to the shore defences at either
Esquimalt or Victoria.

I have had the honour to receive your Despatch No 92 of the
21st March 1862, and I am gratified to
learn thereby that arrangementshave
have been made for landing in Vancouver Island two 68 pounder Guns,
which may be spared from Her Majesty's Ships "Bacchante" and
"Topaze".
