Murdoch requests Newcastle's approval of a draft implementation plan for the Memorandum of arrangement between the Crown and the HBC which resolves the company's land claims on Vancouver Island.
In obedience to the instructions contained in your letter of the
18th inst I have the honor to submit herewith for the approval of
the Duke of Newcastle, the draft of an Agreement which we have
prepared for carrying out in a more formal manner the terms embodied
in the Memorandum of arrangement which has been accepted by hisGrace Grace
and the Hudsons Bay Co for the final settlement of the claims of the
Company to Land in the district of Victoria in VanCouvers Island.
We have forwarded a copy of the draft Agreement to the Compy and
requested them if they concur in its terms, to fix a day for its
execution.
I apprehend that nothing further can be done in this Country towards
carrying out the arrangement and that a copy of the Agreement when
executed should be forwarded by the Secretary of State to the
Governor, and by the Company to their Chief Officer in the Island
with instructions to prepare under the directions of the Attorney
General of the Colony for execution by the Compy the necessary Deeds
of reconveyance of the portions of land to be surrendered to the
Crown.
