I beg to state for your Graces' information, that I accompanied

Governor Hill in
February last, to Antigua, as his private Secretary
and Aide decamp—but I was compelled to return to England on the
13
Ulto by order of the medical men, in consequence of severe illness,
brought on by the heat, of the Climate, and with their assurance that
the West Indies are unsuitable to my constitution, I venture to ask
for employment in a Climate more congenial to my health.
I
 I have the
further honor to annex for your Graces' perusal, the Copy of a note
               written me by
Governor Hill on the eve of my departure from Antigua,
unasked for by myself. It will I trust, palliate in some degree, the
liberty I take, in asking your Grace for Government Employment.
