No. 98, Miscellaneous

I have the honor to inform you that the gold diggings at
Sooke River
have been partially suspended in consequence of the rise of water.

All concerned are still sanguine of success and numerous parties are
now occupied prospecting the neighbouring hills and gullies for
               quartz reefs.

            The

               The total amount paid into
the Treasury for mining licences to this
               date is $4000 20/100.

The discovery of these diggings has given employment to a number of
people and a wholesome impetus to trade.

I still entertain a well grounded hope that more valuable discoveries
               will be made ere spring.

I have the honor to be,
               Sir
               Your most obedient Servant,

                     Put by.
